From shapes to tools, what you can do to have that full brows

Words by Vannessa Han

Has everyone watched Emily in Paris already? A show definitely on Netflix’ popular now, Lily Collins and her adorable looks in Paris was all the rage amongst beauty insiders. The moment Lily gracefully walked down the magnificent Palais Garnier staircase with the famous funny face look homaged to Audrey herself (and she nailed it!) was breathtaking. One can’t help but notice the resemblance, which was particularly uncanny thanks to her naturally thick and full eyebrows. On this note, we as beauty insiders couldn’t help but come up with the tips for such a killer eyebrow. If we are to talk about the art of brow shaping there will be no end to it, but we’ve only sorted out the essential tips to keep in mind to help with your learning curve.

What eyebrow shape should I go for?

Eyebrow trends go along with eye makeup trends every season, yet we are born with one shape and one shape only. The key to a successful brow shaping is to find your own recipe to flatter both your facial balance and latest trend. As for F/W 2020 we’re witnessing natural, thick eyebrows all over beauty socialites. As for how to use eyebrow shapes as an element to boost your mood, take a hint from classic suggestions on brow shape according to face types. Say, shaping your brow in high-arched shapes will balance your round faces, giving you the sharper look, or a straight shaped eyebrow will help your face look shorter if you’ve got a long face.

What should I use?

Natural thick brows do sound like just a quick easy fix, but those who have tried before might agree that it can actually be way more demanding than sharply arched gull wing ones. As always, the ‘effortless’ look demands the most effort when it comes to a makeup routine. The tricky part is to find the right tool, right shade and right texture to realize a ‘natural’ look, or otherwise you’ll end up with two kit kats dangling on your brow bones. So here’s the list of your options to choose from, and we’ve listed up what to expect from each of them.

Brow Pencil

A very widely beloved choice of brow makeup. A brow pencil works best if you’d literally like to draw your brows one by one for a convincing natural look. The pencil comes in many different textures, but usually in order to maintain the shapes pencils are not so soft, and need to be manually sharpened. For more convenient types of products they come with spoolie tips on the other side, so that you may use them to brush your eyebrow before drawing your brows and soften the tails to make it look more natural.

Eyebrow Powder

Also known as eyebrow shadow, these pressed powder pigments look just like your regular eyeshadows. Oftentimes eyebrow powders come with multiple shades, or even with highlighters to lighten your brow bone, so it’s much more fitted for people seeking to customize their own brow color, or add some contour with enclosed highlighters. The powder palette usually comes with enclosed tips and spoolies as well as mirror, which comes very handy if you need a quick brow fix away from your vanity table.

Brow Gel

Well, it looks just like an eyelash mascara(and some are actually fooled!). Basically they’d do what eyelash mascara will do to your lashes - keeps your hair in place, make them look fuller and longer. Brow gels can be used alone, but it works best when used with either the brow pencil or brow powder just to conceal the natural brow color that does not go well with the choice of your brow color, or strengthen the ‘natural’ looking textures of your brow. If you’re going with strictly natural looking brow, a colorless clear brow gel just to emphasize the strong texture will do the job nicely. Clear brow gel is also a good trick to seal your brows in place when trimming your brow, as it helps you focus on where to shave off.

Eyebrow Tints

A definite time-saver for either those who are not so skilled in drawing their brow right, or for those who’d love to get that extra 10 minute sleep in the morning. Usually made with pigments for instant tattoos or natural henna, eyebrow tints longwear liquid type product that temporarily dyes your brows. When choosing eyebrow tints, you’d better focus on tints that are close to the color you wish, and are made of natural ingredients.
