ohora VS Nail Technician
Witness the one
on one match yourself
BY Carla Kimㆍ NOVEMBER 09, 2020
Made of 100% real gel from base to top, it's the smallest nail salon in the world. This is the promise ohora makes to you. Whether or not ohora semicured gel nail strips really look like nails done at the salon is the biggest question for our first time users, so we did a little experiment. We literally hosted a one on one match between a nail technician and ohora on the same nail design and asked the participants to judge on several criteria. Yup, let’s cut to the chase and see it for ourselves.
Ta-da! Take a guess which hand is which!
The answer is revealed at the bottom of the blog! We’ve prepared a quick time-lapse video of both procedures for you .
Round 1. Thickness & Gloss: TIE
As you can see in the video, it’s quite difficult to tell the difference between the work of a nail technician and ohora, and so did our judge! ohora is made of real gel nail polish, made layer by layer from base to top, so basically it's real gel just in the form of a ready-made strip. After curing, ohora not only gives you the customizable fit that no stickers can give, but also creates a dashing gloss and thickness that only real gel nails can bring to you!
Round 2. Price: ohora WIN
According to our nail technician, the design in the video charges about $50~$70, depending on the type and number of gems used. Then how much was the box of ohora used in the video? Only $11.50! A box of ohora provides 30 strips, and since you can stretch or cut to fit your nail size, you can use a box of ohora more than once! ohora can be easily removed without a visit to the salon for a soak off - another win for ohora.
Round 3. Durability: DEBATABLE
When properly applied, ohora gel nail can last up to 14 days. Although a thick gel nail done in a salon lasts forever, and for some of us it just never comes off, the participant called it debatable, because this could either be an advantage or a disadvantage depending on where you stand. A regular gel nail polish does last long, but it doesn’t mean that it stays the same way you came out of the salon. It gets dirty, chipped, and above all is not recommended to keep gel nails longer than 2 weeks to maintain healthy nails. Furthermore, a nail design is part of your daily styling, so amazing durability can be an awful downside for whimsical minds. ohora on the other hand, is a perfect choice if you don't want to miss on both the incomparable quality of a real gel nail and TPO styling.
Round 4. Damage: ohora WIN
Nothing is free in this world, and the durability of a gel polish comes with a compromise – nail damage. Not to mention the difficulty of removal DIY. Either soaking your nail tip in an acetone cotton puff for half an hour or getting yourself a nail drill, the chances are, your nails are left damaged. In order to remove ohora, however, you only need a wood stick and an acetone remover. Just soak the wood stick with acetone and push gently from the edges. No need to wait out for your nails to recover - you can move on to the next design of your choice!
Round 5. Convenience: ohora WIN
The most important round, we might add. You can say goodbye to the days when your DIY nails had bumpy surfaces or left messy polish stains on your furniture. While realizing complete gel nail quality, all things needed to achieve that look – time, cost, and even effort – is almost non-existant!
Overall, ohora takes the victory. Don’t get us wrong, we ourselves love getting our manis & pedis done at the salon. It’s more than just a nail design, but rather a moment of treating yourself, or precious time shared with friends. However, ohora does believe that we should be able to enjoy quality nails regardless of time and space - hence, delivering the smallest nail salon just for you. Whatever your choice might be, this little beauty treat for yourself can go a long way – and VANITY TABLE is honored to provide them for you!
